Went on a “moderate” difficulty-rated hike yesterday and it felt like we were back on the Camino Del Norte. It felt good to spend our energy again. Fitness app shows we climbed the equivalent of 116 flights! We’re giving ourselves a rest day before exploring another trail tomorrow. As always, pictures can’t do it justice.
Despite experiencing all the beauty of nature, our favorite part of the day may have been the city bus ride back into Funchal! The driver was a character and we felt like we were on Harry Potter’s Knight Bus flying way too fast through very narrow, winding streets. He fought with and cussed the standard transmission on very steeply graded streets. We were in the first row and had to hold on to the bars and press our knees against the acrylic guard just to keep from flying out of our seats. The driver seemed to know almost everyone who got on the bus and even those walking on the sidewalks in the little townships we blew through. He had something to say (or yell out the window) to everyone. Sometimes it’s the little things!
