After the long drive from the day and night before, we needed to get outside. We went to the Killarney National Park and walked the Muckross Lake Trail. It was a little over 9 miles and a beautiful day!

We stumbled on the ruins of a Franciscan Friary, too! The Muckross Friary is at the edge of the Muckross property. The Franciscans were said to have been in possession of a miraculous statue of the Virgin. This friary, too, was suppressed by Henry VIII in 1541, but was re-established in 1612. The friars were eventually driven out permanently by the Cromwellians in 1652.
