We’ve spent the last several days just meandering through some of the Madeira neighborhoods and restocking our gear preparing for our next move. We’ve also had several appointments with Portugal immigration, a bank, and the equivalent of their social security office as we establish temporary residency.
We peak into pretty much every church we pass! This blue one in downtown Funchal was so pretty. We chatted with a woman who was placing the blue hydrangeas around the church to decorate for her sister’s wedding later in the day. Such a happy day. The flowers were so pretty that we thought they were fake at first!
Bananas everywhere! You can’t walk far without seeing bananas! I thought we’d see banana-everything on menus, but not really. We’ve enjoyed them fresh and plain. This tree is growing wild by our hotel pool.
Below is another church (and views from the entrance) we just happened onto last Sunday late morning – one of the newer ones of the island. There was a large family celebrating the baptism of one of their little ones. It was lovely to hear all the prayers and joyful laughter. It was especially beautiful to witness because we weren’t able to be at our lil Chiara Baker’s baptism in Austin. The Church is growing all over the world 🙂
