July 13 Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo – 7.8 miles

We spent Thursday morning with our heads above the clouds and it was absolutely incredible.

Watching the sun rise from that perspective was awesome. We took so many pictures as we hiked the pass between the two highest peaks on Madeira, and were disappointed that we couldn’t capture all of God’s grandeur that we experienced. As the sun rose higher in the sky and the morning clouds burned off, we could begin to discern some of the towns along the coast way down through the mountain passes.

Two days later our legs are still a little sore after hitting our new PR of 180 flights of steps per the Apple Fitness app! We were more than a mile above the coast.

Laughing at the spooky picture of me walking through one of the longer tunnels cut through the mountain!

The beautiful purple flowers almost look like bluebonnets or lupins! Absolutely stunning.

Just finally caught up on all your travels! Amazed at all the beautiful places and at both of you for all you’ve seen and done. Those who walked alongside you(virtually and in person) on the Camino have been blessed indeed. Prayed for y’all last night at a holy hour!!
