We picked up the car from the Volvo factory on Tuesday the 19th and put it to work on the 20th. The factory tour was actually pretty interesting. Rolls of sheet metal come in one end and cars roll out the other. The assembly line is over a mile and a half long, uses lots of robots, and takes 48 hours from start to finish. Many of the components are delivered “just in time” in the assembly line to prevent the need for storage. The seats, for example, have a 4-hour window between when they are delivered to the factory and installed.
